HOP ON BOARD FOR A RIDE

You can go sightseeing in the city of Kuopio by various means of transportartion. A tour in an old-time horse cab or on a street train is a leisurely way of enjoying a summer day. Conventional sightseeing tours by bus are available throughout the year by prior booking through Kuopio-Info, where also guides of the Kuopio Guides Association (Kuopion Oppaat ry) can be reserved.
 
Guided tours in the north-eastern parts of the Kuopio region can be booked through Koillis-Savon Oppaat ry. For example a Tour of the Ironworks in Northeast Savo provides an insight into the past of the Finnish lake district and its rich cultural heritage. The tour includes visits to ironworks and communities that flourished around them, complete with ironmaster's manors, churches and workers' quarters, which still keep history alive.

Horse Cab
An old-time horse cab stands ready for service in front of the tourist information office Kuopio-Info (Haapaniemenkatu street). The cab is available from early May to late August Mon-Sat 10-16/17 and other times by agreement.

Street trains
The street train makes non-stop tours to the Passenger Harbour and from there via the park area of Väinölänniemi back to the centre 1 June-15 Aug Mon-Sat 10 am-4 pm every hour 25 min after, for example at 10.25, 11.25 etc. Other times available for charter. The train has a pre-recorded commentary in Finnish and English. Street train stop is by the Market square in front of Kuopio City hall.

Tourist Line Kuopio HOP ON - HOP OFF Bus
Tourist Line Kuopio HOP ON - HOP OFF Bus 17.6.-15.8.2010 daily except 25th-26th of June. Departures 11 am - 4 pm on the hour from the street Maljalahdenkatu, behind the City Hall. Route: Maljalahdenkatu - Puijo Tower - Bus station - Satamakatu - Väinölänniemi (Park) (NOT 29 July - 1 August) - Piispanpuisto (Park) - Housing Fair Car Park (1 km to the bridge section of the Archipelago Avenue) - Lake Valkeinen -Maljalahdenkatu. No guidance. Route map and description in English included in the price. Tickets from the bus driver 5 €/adults, 3 €/children 4-11 yrs.
