The rural district of Vesanto is situated 85 km west of Kuopio, 100 from Kuopio Airport and 55 km from the nearest railway station in Suonenjoki. Vesanto can also be reached by bus.

Vesanto is conveniently situated between the arterial highways 4 and 5, as well as on the Blue Highway international tourist route. The clear-watered lakes with their islands and canals together with the verdant countryside make the district an attractive holiday destination. Vesanto is located on the Kansallisvesi Boating Route which can be reached from southern Finland via Lake Päijänne and the Keitele Canal. There is a replenishment point for boaters within walking distance from the centre of Vesanto.

Boating and fishing are an essential part of a summer holiday in Vesanto. The district has a number of public boat jetties, and various guided nature and fishing trips are arranged. You can stay in holiday cottages or farmhouses, and there are also restaurants. Vesanto is well-known for the cultivation and breeding of currant bushes and the tasty berries they produce. The Vesanto Croft Museum, open in summer, depicts the Finnish crofting tradition in an authentic 1860s setting. The wood-built church of Vesanto dates back to 1857. Vesanto has a number of choirs and bands as well as a thriving amateur theatre, which perform at various local events.

Local handicrafts and farm produce, including bread, pastries, berries and vegetables, can be found at the Vestori shop, situated in the centre of Vesanto.
