The rural district of Siilinjärvi is situated 20 km north of Kuopio and 8 km from Kuopio Airport. Siilinjärvi can also be easily reached by train or bus.

Siilinjärvi has around 20,000 inhabitants and is a vigorously growing district. Kuopio Airport is in fact situated within the district of Siilinjärvi in Rissala and was chosen as the best airport in Finland in 2002.

Siilinjärvi is within easy reach by the arterial highway 5. Accommodation, restaurant and spa facilities are available here all year round. The Kunnonpaikka Spa Hotel and the Fontanella Leisure Spa offer a wide range of spa facilities and services. The renovated pool department of the Kunnonpaikka Spa Hotel has 7 pools, a water slide and children’s pools. Kunnonpaikka is well-known for its health therapies. The modern Fontanella Leisure Spa has also recently had a facelift and its new lights, colours and music that complement its various pools and slides provide an ever more refreshing spa experience. Those bitten by the golf bug can head for Tarina Golf, which is a varied 36-hole complex comprising two courses. While the new course, completed in 2002, is more suitable for club golfers, both courses are certain to offer a real challenge even to the most experienced golfers, being located in varied hilly terrain with natural water hazards. The youngest visitors to Siilinjärvi will delight in visiting the Koivuharju Domestic Animal Farm.
