 CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING The Kuopio region, guaranteed to have plenty of snow, offers excellent opportunities for cross-country skiing. Kuopio itself has 400 kilometres of marked and maintained skiing trails. The wonderful winter scenery is a dream come true for skiers. Puijo is the best-known cross-country ski area in Kuopio with its 40 kilometres of largely illuminated trails for both recreational and competitive use. There is usually a 1.5-kilometre trail in use as early as November. Other wise the skiing season in the Kuopio region lasts from early December to early April.
