 CALL OF THE VERDANT FAIRWAYS Those bitten by the golf bug will find a full range of facilities in the Kuopio region: well-maintained courses, a good selection of golf classes, and an array of excellent services. The golf courses in the region rank among the best in the whole of Finland. The 18-hole course of the Tahko Golf Club in Nilsiä has been voted as the most scenic in the country, and Tarina Golf in Siilinjärvi was extended in 2002 to comprise 36 fairways. Both of these international-standard courses are located in varied terrain and offer a real challenge to experienced golfers and novices alike. The 9-hole Konnus Golf in Leppävirta and the par 3 practice course at Puijo in Kuopio are set in upland areas and provide excellent facilities for practising and playing. All of the golf courses in the region have pro-shops and equipment maintenance services, and there are facilities for eating and accommodation nearby. KUOPIO: Puijo Golf Course The Puijo Golf Course in Kuopio zigzags across the slopes of Puijo Hill. The scenic par 3 practice course with 9 fairways is open from the spring after the snow has thawed until the first snowfalls in autumn. The lengths of the fairways vary between 90 and 180 metres. There is a pro-shop and a cafe, as well as changing rooms and an equipment repair service. Accommodation and restaurant facilities, as well as a leisure spa, are close at hand in the centre of Leppävirta. Here you can find all services a golf player needs from practising fields to different kinds of club services. NewCourse and OldCourse are different. New Course is situated near the water and changing forest areas. New Course has more highness differences and narrower course, which makes the game more difficult and interesting. Tel. +358-400-562 299 SIILINJÄRVI: Tarina Golf The varied and demanding Tarina Golf in Siilinjärvi has a total of 36 fairways. The old golf course, offering a real challenge, was supplemented in summer 2002 by a new course which is better suited to club golfers. The fairways of both courses are certain to delight even the most experienced golfers, with the hilly terrain and natural water hazards adding to the challenge. The club restaurant, the changing rooms and showers, as well as the lakeside sauna are all at the players' disposal. Accommodation, restaurants and a leisure spa can be found in the centre of Siilinjärvi, and Kuopio lies only 20 km away. The well-stocked golf shop is open all day until late in the evening. The shop also offers a caddiemaster's services.
